We’re Going on a Bear Hunt comes to life on ABC Kids

As a child, I was allowed half an hour of TV a day and that could only be ABC. Clearly I am traumatised by a childhood spent without much access to television and my pop culture knowledge has suffered greatly due to my lack of commercial television exposure as a child. However, as so often happens, we turn into our parents, and while some weekends my children certainly watch more (way more) than half an hour of TV a day, I still restrict it to ABC. These days, with ABC Kids and ABC ME, the options for ABC viewing are darned excellent and I’ve been known to say, ‘well in my day…’ if there are any complaints!

This Saturday, Feb 26th at 5pm, ABC Kids are to air a special animated adaptation of the bedtime classic, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.Bear Hunt image 2

When Stan, Katie, Rosie, Max, the baby and Rufus the dog are left home alone one day before Christmas after their parents go the rescue of Grandma, the children decide it would be fun to go on a bear hunt, spurred on by Katie’s love of grizzly bears. After swishing and swashing through the long grass, splashing and sploshing through rivers and squilching and squelching through mud, Rufus the dog picks up the scent of a bear…

Incorporating the irresistible story and beautiful artwork of the original book , I am more than slightly excited about this TV adaptation and in fact have a reminded set in my phone #sadbuttrue.Bear Hunt image Bear Hunt 3

Author Michael Rosen says, “I am absolutely delighted about this animation. Lupus Films have a great record in this field and I am very excited to be part of the project. Helen Oxenbury’s wonderful art work provides a powerful family saga, full of imagined or real trials and these pictures will give a basis for this moving drama.”

Illustrator Helen Oxenbury says, “I’m so looking forward to seeing the book brought to life in this way. It’s a wonderful opportunity to bring We’re Going on a Bear Hunt to even more children and I’m thrilled to be part of it.”HASHTAG
