February 14 is International Book Giving Day and it’s a day I embrace with enthusiasm. There is no better gift than a book and I love that this day encourages the giving of books as an act of kindness, love and literacy. Over the years we have participated, we’ve gifted books to several of our local doctors waiting rooms, our favourite coffee shops and a local school for recently arrived refugees. On a much larger scale and internationally, many worthy organisations have benefited from the gift of books and you can see some gorgeous photos from around the world here. On a day all about love, it’s nice to share our love of books.
Every year an fabulous children’s book illustrator designs the posters and bookmarks for the occasions and this year Elys Dolan has created a fab poster to share in schools, libraries, coffeeshops and homes. I’ve got a stack ready to go for classrooms and for the school newsletter. Elys Dolan’s poster features an array of fun, book loving characters. Eagle eyed readers will spot some familiar, much loved characters from her illustrated novel, ‘Knighthood for Beginners’, (Oxford University Press, 2017). With its fun design and brilliant attention to detail, Dolan’s poster is sure to catch lots of attention.
