Review of ‘Peggy’
Written and illustrated by Anna Walker
Publisher: Scholastic Australia
Age Range: Early Childhood – adults (who love chickens)
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while now you will be aware of my love of chooks and books about chooks! There’s ‘Amelia’s Ellicott’s Garden’ and her puff ball bantams the colour of sunshine, the lovely ‘Chook Chook’ series and my list of my favourite books about chooks.
The work of Anna Walker will be familiar to many of you, most likely as the creative genius behind the bestselling ‘Ollie’ series. I suspect nearly every Australian home with children has a few much loved ‘Ollie’ books.
With ‘Peggy’ Anna has another bestseller on her hands and deservedly so. Peggy is the perfect chicken. She is adventurous and plucky and just plain delightful. Every day she plays in her yard, until one windy day she is BLOWN away. The book trailer says it all.
Do take the time to also watch this interview with Anna Walker – I assure you it will be 2:25 minutes well spent! This is one of the best author/illustrator clips I have ever seen and I have played it several times over the past week just to soak up its gorgeousness.
