WIN! ‘The Snail and the Whale’ @ QPAC

QPAC in Association with Tall Stories Theatre Company

The Snail and the Whale

I know they are best known for ‘The Gruffalo’, but my favourite Julia Donaldson/Axel Scheffler book has always been ‘The Snail and the Whale’ and I think of it as a modern classic. I’ve had the hardest time deciding what to attend at  the QPAC SummerSet program (because clearly it is about me, not what my children may enjoy?!) – our top priorities so far are to see ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’, ‘Deadly 60’ and ‘The Snail and the Whale’.

I’m a big fan of theatre tickets as presents from grandparents and aunts as it really does add to the excitement of the festive season to have a family or cousins day out getting all dressed up, having lunch and visiting the theatre. Live theatre is just the most magical experience for young people (and their adults!) and I will always invest in theatre over…well many other things actually!

pr_imagethesnailandthewhale‘The Snail and the Whale’ is a critically acclaimed live musical stage adaptation by Tall Stories Theatre Company, of the picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. From 6 to 22 January 2017 ‘The Snail and the Whale’ will be performed in the Cremorne Theatre, QPAC, and audiences are invited to join a tiny snail on her trip around the world.

Created in Tall Stories’ unique style, the show combines storytelling, music and lots of laughs. All music and sound effects are created live on stage with a viola and an effects pedal. Recommended age group: 4-10 and grown-ups.

Tickets can be purchased from QPAC here

Theatre tickets based on books are best gifted with the book in my teacher librarian opinion! I find it invaluable to have read the story before visiting and post visiting the book will be revisited many, many times over and used to re-live the performance. Especially for young people, having a thorough understanding of the book before they attend can help them to follow the performance. We currently have the books for ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ performance here and ‘The Snail and the Whale’ on high rotation at home.

Purchase ‘The Snail and the Whale’ by clicking on title links or cover image below. Gift the tickets with either the book/audio CD set or the fabulous activity pack with magnets and stickers. the-snail-and-the-whale xthe-snail-and-the-whale_jpg_pagespeed_ic_v8p6y7gkzi

  1. I didn’t even know this was on! The kids love this book! I’d love to take them and if I was feeling BRAVE I would take my Godson along as well. I’d be out numbered though… GASP!

  2. Of all the wonderful Julia Donaldson books this is my favourite- it is such a beautiful story about broadening horizons and new friendships. My two and four year olds have never been to the theatre but have been entranced by this book (and enjoyed the associated activity book- I am a bit Julia Donaldson obsessed!) so I’m sure would be spellbound by the production.

  3. I would love to go along with my 2 little ladies! Watching them watch live theatre is such a fun thing to do!!!

  4. A wonderful book by an amazing author. As a children’s book author myself, I would love to win some tickets so I can give them to a young local family who would never have the opportunity to afford the tickets themselves.

  5. I am a prep teacher aid and Julia Donaldson books are some of my favourites to share with the kids. I would take my husband, Mum and my 13 year son as I always say “your are never too old to read and appreciate the world of picture books”

  6. I don’t need to win tickets as my 5yo & me saw this show last holidays but I just wanted to say how good it was – funny, creative, moving and really true to the spirit of the book. Just go!!
