Nine Year Old and a Book Update

Today is Pud’s ninth birthday* and we celebrated with family yesterday as today is a school day – although, excitement of all excitements…cross country was cancelled today due to rain…a welcome birthday gift from above.

Personality wise, not much has changed at all since my update on Pud at eight years old, but reading-wise, she’s going through a bit of a slump. When she puts her mind to it, she can still hoon through a book, but on the whole she would rather be playing with her Sylvannians/LEGO, playing piano or creating some craft or cooked concoction in her spare time…and of course she loves a screen when she can get access to one:). I AM TRYING NOT TO FREAK OUT by this lack of passion for reading. I mean, I AM A LIBRARIAN. But perhaps therein lies the problem and I’m trying very hard to back off with suggestions of new books and anxious stares her way over lack of reading :). Sigh. Parenting is hard.

Some parents want to remember when their child first started soccer or played in their first piano recital – I want to remember the books my children adored each year. What can I say? I’m a librarian…the books are important milestones to me. The books below are ones that Pud has read and loved in the last little while. 

She also received a new charm, delivered via the fairy door. She loves her silver charm bracelet and charm necklaces and they are great ‘collectables’ for her – with each charm representing something she’s loved. The top hat one is from when #backboy danced in her jazz concert last year, so she particularly loves this one.

The Look Says it All

*As the girls grow older, I am ever-conscious of not telling their stories online. It was cute as toddlers and kindy kids but I don’t want them to look back and be horrified about stories or images I have shared online. I check with them before I post a photo and Pud has full editing rights over any posts that mention her! I don’t want to overshare, but I do like to share our journey as a family. We live in a digital age and whilst there is much to be wary of, there is also much to celebrate. I want my children to use the online space wisely and for good.
