DIY Dinosaur Garden
As mentioned recently, ‘How to Grow a Dinosaur’ is ChickPea’s favourite book and we all know it by heart. On the eve of her third birthday there was a massive meltdown over PudStar’s fairy garden (here), as ChickPea kept adding her dinosaurs and trashing it… so I decided to make her a garden of her own…less fairies, more dinosaurs. A while back she took over the sandpit and turned it into ‘Land of the Dinosaurs’ but I had gifted the sandpit to a cousin when the chooks discovered it and I could no longer cope with the mess.
So I had one hour, and the shops were closed. To create this last minute present, I used an old wire and plastic coated washing basket that I picked up at the school fete last year and stuck in the garden some time ago, meaning to turn it into a pot. I didn’t have a basket liner but used some black meshy garden stuff I found under the house to line the basket before filling it with a mixture of sand, peat, potting mix and perlite (yes I did have all that at home!). Also filled some ‘Willow’ pots which were broken…and some cut up/dog chewed dinosaur toys.
I snipped off some of favourite succulents from larger plants and added a bowl for a lake and my Japanese string plant which had fallen off it’s string. Added a path of crushed stones from an old vase arrangement and a stack of dinosaurs…ta-da! One dinosaur garden.
She loves it. The photos below are at sunset the day after her birthday and they are still completely engrossed.
PudStar is fabulously pleased she can now have her fairy garden all to herself…except when the dinosaurs come to visit.

What a cool idea!
I think that C might need one of these…as it is his dinosaurs are scattered all over my garden!
Oh gosh you too huh?! All the little succulents in dinosaurs are from the ones I picked up all around the yard…some that had been eaten by the dog!!!!
