Kid’s Online Writing Course

I’m regularly asked by parents where their creative kids can access writing or illustrating courses and while I know of a few locally, I’ve not yet found one online that I would be comfortable to recommend. Enter Allison Tait with her new Creative Writing Quest for Kids

Allison Tait is the bestselling author of The Mapmaker Chronicles and the Ateban Cipher series and she is a wealth of information when it comes to creative writing, she’s also the creator of the very fab Facebook group Your Kid’s Next Read which I co-admin with her.  I’ve seen Allison in person working with children and teens and she is inspiring and full of writing wisdom so to learn that she is now running an online writing course for kids, which can be accessed worldwide, is fantastic news. The full details of the course are here.

The Australian Writers Centre is a leader in the field when it comes to online courses (I’ve done a few myself though am still recovering from the Scrivener one-highly recommended but intense) so I’m really comfortable recommending this one run by Allison Tait which is aimed at 9-14 year olds. While you’re at the AWC website sign up to their weekly newsletter and also subscribe to the ‘So You Want to be a Writer’ podcast – not just for writers, this podcast is full of bookish news and goss and is without a doubt my fav podcast – except for that time my Bluetooth had a fit and I had the one episode of this podcast on loop for about a month and it didn’t occur to me to just turn down the volume until it was fixed.

The Creative Writing Quest for Kids online course takes place over 12 weeks, with video tuition from Allison, fun, useful tasks designed to take no more than 30 minutes, a safe online space to upload their work, and personalised video feedback from Allison on their final story. The course is designed to teach the basics of great writing, plus some tips and tricks that will take their writing to the next level. It’s for kids who love writing – and for kids who’d love to write better.

On completion of their quest, young writers will have a story of up to 800 words that they are able to submit to bestselling, internationally published children’s author (and presenter of this course), A.L. (Allison) Tait. She will provide personalised feedback on their story!
